What is the secure flight program?

For the Secure Flight program, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) now requires gender, date of birth, and name that matches government-issued ID, as well as redress number (if applicable), for each passenger in order to check in and obtain a boarding pass.

Providing this information is beneficial to passengers because it helps ensure you are not misidentified as a person on a government watch list. It is strongly recommended that you provide the Secure Flight information. Whether you have experienced name matching issues with the TSA watch list in the past or not, providing the additional Secure Flight passenger information may help prevent mistaken watch list matches in the future. Failure to provide full Secure Flight passenger information may result in longer check in times, security delays, and could be as extreme as denial of transport or denial of authority to enter the boarding area.

We recommend you check in for your flight 24 hours in advance, if possible. This will facilitate the screening process and minimize delays on your day of travel.

Privacy of individuals' personal information is an integral part of the Secure Flight program. TSA will collect the minimum amount of personal information necessary to conduct effective watch list matching. Additionally, personal data will be collected, used, distributed, stored and disposed of in accordance with stringent guidelines and all applicable privacy laws and regulations.
