San Antonio Travel Tip

San Antonio's historic and well-preserved Mission San Jose hosts a mariachi Mass every Sunday at noon. Get to the church early, as seats are highly coveted. The sermon is delivered in English, and hymns are sung to the tune of traditional Mexican ballads. Although respectful visitors are welcome, the Mass is a regular Sunday religious observance for the parish, not a musical performance.

San Antonio Activities & Attractions

Paseo del Rio
Better known as the River Walk, the Paseo del Rio brims with popular restaurants, shops and nightclubs. Hot-pink riverboats cruise up and down the lively parts of the river. After dark, twinkling lights shimmer among the riverside trees.
The Alamo
Remember The Alamo? It's hard to forget Texas's most-recognizable symbol -- it's smack in the middle of downtown. You may be surprised how small it is, and how close it sits to modern buildings. Visit the Wall of History, and the old mission church.
San Antonio musuems
Visit a pair of highly regarded museums. The San Antonio Museum of Art occupies the historic Lone Star Brewery, and houses a famed collection of Latin American works. The McNay Art Museum features American and European masters in a Mediterranean villa.
La Villita and Market Square
Take a walk back into San Antonio's history at La Villita and Market Square. The "little village" occupies late 18th-century buildings of the city's original European settlement. El Mercado features Latino vendors selling crafts, snacks and other wares.
